With a very heavy heart, Camp Becky and friends have to say good bye to one of our very own. Thurber Nation’s work here is done and he’s off to save many more lives in his next life in another form – perhaps in the likeness of a unicorn, perhaps another star in the sky, or perhaps as a shaman. There’s no doubt Thurber spent his days eating the gluten that Mommy couldn’t, snuggling, chasing balls, making lanyards, listening to Jay-Z, but most importantly, using his magical powers of love and adorableness on all he came in contact with.

And so may I present my ode to Thurber Nation. (Apologies in advance for the weak iMovie slideshow – it’s the thought that counts, right? At least the song is awesome.)

Camp Becky loves when we get new campers. This week, Camp Becky welcomes the dynamic duo of Blurry and Meow. These two adorable canines belong to a Creative Department colleague. These are some of the best behaved pooches to sit around the campfire. However, much to my dismay, they refused to spoon with me overnight.

Meet Blurry (who became known as Blur-bear and Blurberry during her stay at Camp Becky) and Meow (whose name became any iteration of saying “Meowmeowmeowmeowmeow” as quickly as possible).

Bars, babies, and pooches

The tri-fecta: drinking a beer while staring at a cute baby (I don’t hold babies much) and playing with an array of pooches on a bar patio. Thank you, Neon’s!

A few weeks ago, Neon’s re-opened in Over-the-Rhine, conveniently in the backyard of my office. They had a reopening celebration on Good Friday, which I attended with some colleagues and friends, accompanied by their babies and puppies. A stellar way to spend a day off, I say.

The Nugget and the Tater Tot

No, folks, I’m not talking about a new menu at your favorite fast food joint…

Warning: There is a whooolllee lotta cute in this post.

On Sunday, I took them over to play with Hannah and my amazing 21 month old niece, Alexis (more commonly referred to as The Nugget). Rex has met Hannah and The Nugget on a number of occasions, but of course, this was the first encounter with the Tater Tot himself, young Rudy. It seemed that Nugget liked the idea of having a puppy at perfect patting height for her. In fact, when Rudy stood up on his back legs, they were the same height. CUTE.

Nugget started playing a game with the cat’s “fishing” toy (stuffed mouse on a string and a stick) whereby she would fish for little Rudy. He ate it right up.

Obviously Rex is not so concerned with the fishing.

Nugget is good at trying to let the puppies outside too, so she tried to take all three out. She is not so good at turning the knob all the way and opening the door.

“Hey, Nugget, will you pet Rudy?”
“Woo-dee!” she says.

“Nugget, pet Rex too.”
“Wex!”

“Okay, now everybody say CHEESE!”
“CHEEESE!”

Apparently, pairing a 5 month old puppy with a 21 month old can wear a puppy out. He slept the whole way home.

Photobooth + Puppies

High Highness the Rexer and His Royal Shortness the Rudy are the puppies in residence this week. Well, actually, they have graciously allowed me to stay in their residence this time. So we decided to have a little fun with Photobooth.

Rudy was small enough to put in my lap so I got a few in before he squirmed away…

It was harder to get Rex cause he doesn’t fit in my lap. Rex and I have always had a special relationship.

I just love him to pieces.

With kisses from a guy like that, I don’t need any other man in my life. Period.

Ohhhhh boy. Sound the alarms. We’ve got another one.

Imagine, if you will, a very stressful meeting at the office. The kind that makes you want to pull your hair out or punch yourself in the face. That kind. Imagine walking out of that meeting to have your stress instantly melted away by this:

Yeah, sorta like Gus Gus from Cinderella. You remember him…

As though to torture me with cute, another colleague of mine at the Creative Department adopted this tiny, adorable masterpiece of fur and puppy breath. Gus is a 6 week old golden retriever.

Office Puppy Party!

One of the things I loved about working at Barefoot Proximity was the open pooch policy. That is how I met many of the campers. When I switched jobs and came over to The Creative Department, I was flanked with pooch loving colleagues here as well, but one of our partners is allergic to pups so there is no open pooch policy.

But when the allergy-ridden boss is away, the pups will play!

Today, there are three delightful little canines gracing our wooden floors:

Penny, the adorable baby King Charles Spaniel

Chloe, the 10 year old Airdale Terrier (she does NOT look nor act like a 10 year old pooch!)

And Porter, the 2 year old Cocker Spaniel

It has been a hard day at work for these pups.
